Planning board gearing up for hearing on mammoth project

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - City officials have begun notifying nearby property owners of a hearing on plans for a mammoth mixed-use development on the west side of Gainesville.

The city planning and appeals board is scheduled to consider a request to rezone 421 acres at and near Brown's Bridge and McEver Roads on November 8.

Plans call for a mixed-used planned community for active adults, 55 and older, to be known as Seasons at Lake Lanier.

Most of the property is at the intersection; the remainder is just west of the crossroads near the Brown's Bridge Road/Montgomery Drive intersection.

Seasons at Lake Lanier will be a 744-home, gated community offering homes ranging from the $200,000s to over $400,000, and nearly 80,000 square feet of community commercial space, according to Dan Grosswald, Atlanta region president for Levitt and Sons.

The mixed-use, master-planned community will include a community commercial area, fronting on McEver, with the possibility of retail and restaurants, Grosswald said in July in formally announcing plans for the project.
