Challenged Child matches $100K challenge

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - Challenged Child and Friends of Gainesville has met the $100,000 matching grant issued it by a Dahlonega-based foundation earlier this year.

Executive Director Cathy Drerup says the money was raised
within the required 100 days "so that made for a busy and exciting summer." Drerup says the Buisson Family Foundation has now issued another $100,000 challenge and "we are within about $25,000 of meeting that...challenge."

In addition, the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta has awarded the agency a $12,000 grant.

That money will be used to "facilitate regular meetings between therapists, teachers, nurses, parents and paraprofessionals working with privately enrolled students," according to the Challenged Child newsletter. Equipment will also be purchased for the classrooms to aid in "carryover of therapy and nursing goals."

Challenged Child and Friends, a treatment and rehabilitation center for infants and small children with disabilities, held its 20th anniversary celebration at River Forks Park on Lake lanier in June.
