Gainesville man accidentally shot

GAINESVILLE - A 33 year old Gainesville man says he accidentally shot himself in the hand early Thursday while investigating a noise in his apartment.

Gainesville police Lt. Stan Kimbrell says Samuel Burson of Ridgecrest Apartments told police he picked up his pistol as he went to investigate. Lt. Kimbrell quoted Burson as says the gun went off when he "chambered" a round.

Kimbrell says the incident happened about 1:00 Thursday morning. He says Burson was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. A hospital spokeswoman says Burson was treated and released.
