Wreck kills Sugar Hill man

BUFORD - The Gwinnett County Police Department's Accident Investigation Unit is investigating a fatal one-car wreck on Whitehead Road near Suwanee Dam Road near Buford.

Investigators say the driver of a 1991 Mitsubishi 3000GT, Steve Colson of Sugar Hill, was traveling west on Whitehead Road when he lost control while negotiating a curve and struck a bridge abutment head-on. Colson, who was 43, died on the scene.

Investigators believe that speed in conjunction with wet roadway conditions played a role in the collision.
