South Gwinnett Comets claim first ever AAAA boys title

DULUTH, Ga. - Louis Williams scored 39 points to lead South Gwinnett&#39;s 75-49 victory over Tift County for the Class AAAAA boys championship Friday night.<br> <br> South Gwinnett (31-2), which had never won a boys title in any sport, handed the Blue Devils (28-1) their first loss.<br> <br> Tift County trailed by nine points at halftime, but they never drew any closer than 15 points early in the fourth quarter. Dwight Tolbert scored 17 points to lead the Blue Devils, who ended Dunwoody&#39;s unbeaten season in the semifinals Wednesday.<br> <br> Williams, a junior who plans to sign a scholarship with Georgia in the fall, pulled down nine rebounds and was 16-of-26 from the floor as he tied Cindy Brogdon for the most points scored by a Gwinnett player in a title game.<br> <br> Brogdon, who later played on the U.S. Olympic team and earned All-American honors at Tennessee and Mercer, set the mark at Greater Atlanta Christian in 1975.<br> <br> (Copyright 2004 by The Associated Press.
