On Thursday, the Jefferson and Oconee County girls secured an all-Region 8-3A final for the Class 3A state title next week. On Friday, the Jefferson and Oconee County boys will see if they can follow suit.
However, Johnson out of Region 6-3A and NW Whitfield out of Region 7-3A stand in their way in the semifinals. The Knights, who finished as Class 4A state runners-up in 2024, head to Oconee County (16-5) and have feasted on 8-3A this season. They are 4-0 against 8-3A teams, having beaten everyone except the Warriors. Johnson (14-4) also has won five straight road matches, including knocking off Calhoun in the second round of the playoffs.
Jefferson, meanwhile, is the lowest seeded team still remaining in Class 3A. The 12th-seeded Dragons (12-6) take on No. 4 seed NW Whitfield (16-2) in Tunnel Hill. Jefferson is 7-2 on the road while the Bruins are 9-2 at home in 2025. NW Whitfield was a semifinalist in Class 4A in 2024.
The winners of the two matches will meet on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at McEachern High School.
