Braselton cops getting patrol bikes

By by Ken Stanford
BRASELTON - The Braselton Police Department joins the growing number of cities and towns adding bicycles to their rolling stock.

Addictive Cycles, Inc., a Braselton bicycle shop, recently donated two specially equipped bikes to the department.

Scott Hodge and Grant Lockwood are co-owners of the shop, which opened in July and is located in the Mulberry Walk center on Georgia 211.

"We realize the town's growth required additional equipment for the police department," says Hodge, "and the bicycles are versatile for movements in neighborhoods and streets. The bicycles also sustain the personal interaction between our police force and residents."

The 27-speed bicycles are made by Cannondale and will be used by BPD officers Tonya McKenzie and Scott Rogers.

Mayor Pat Graham accepted the bicycles on behalf of the town.

"Bicycle patrols are proven and effective. We appreciate the community spirit of Scott and Grant. We will honor them officially with a Town resolution." Braselton Police Chief Terry Esco added, "we're a better town for having businesses like Addictive Cycles. Our officers appreciate this very fine gift."
