Lanier canoe-kayak team members named to national teams

LAKE PLACID, NEW YORK - Two people from Gainesville, Sonrisa Reed and Ty Hagler, were named recently to the United States Senior World Championship kayak team that will be competing at the Lake Lanier Olympic Center in September in the world championships.

This is the third time Sonrisa has made a Senior World Championship team. Ty is the first male Lanier athlete to make a Senior World Team.

These athletes started with the Lanier Canoe- Kayak Club (LCKC) as volunteers during the Olympics. Lanier Athlete Ruth Nortje was also named to the team.

In the Juniors competition, Lanier athlete Will Griffeth easily won both men's events. Teammates, Tim Hornsby and Morgan House made the 5% cut, but Morgan was disqualified when his seat fell out at boat control and the boat was light.

In the women's competition, Lanier's Kalen Lee easily won both events, 14 year old (she will turn 15 this year as required by the rules) Emily Mickle was also named to the team.
