Ritz-Carlton moving headquarters to Maryland

ATLANTA - Ritz-Carlton, which operates 45 luxury hotels throughout the world, is moving its headquarters from Atlanta to Montgomery County, Maryland, next summer.

Spokeswoman Stephanie Platt said the company is moving to be near its corporate parent, Marriott International.

In Atlanta, Ritz-Carlton operates two hotels and has 142 corporate employees. Platt said all the employees have been offered relocation packages.

Atlanta real-estate magnate W.B. Johnson founded Ritz-Carlton Hotel in 1983. Johnson bought North American rights to the name through purchase of the Boston Ritz-Carlton.

Marriott bought a 49 percent share in 1995, and three years later acquired the remaining interest.
