Bobs Candies to add 40 new workers in Albany

By
ALBANY - Candy cane manufacturer Bobs Candies has added 40 jobs at its Albany plant after ending its operations in Tijuana, Mexico.

Greg McCormack, Bobs Candies president and CEO, said yesterday that the company will run three shifts in the Albany plant's candy cane department, bringing the total number of employees to more than 250.

Once the world's largest candy cane manufacturer, Bobs employed 350 people in Albany less than two months ago. The plant came close to extinction May 10th after Bank of America stopped financing the company and Bobs had to close its doors.

Bobs re-opened three weeks later after securing new financing on the $15.2 million loan from Security Bank, an affiliate of Synovus Corporation.

Bobs had an agreement with the Mexican plant in which Bobs provided the equipment and the Tijuana plant provided labor and raw materials. McCormack said the equipment from Tijuana will probably be brought to Albany.
