LOS ANGELES - Steve Bornstein, president of the troubled ABC television network, resigned Tuesday. The announcement was made by Robert Iger, president of The Walt Disney Co., which owns ABC.
Bornstein is leaving the troubled network "to pursue other interests," according to a statement released by Disney.
"I have had the good fortune of having some very challenging and rewarding positions with ESPN, ABC and The Walt Disney Company," Bornstein said in the statement. "There are other interests I wish to pursue and now is an appropriate time to do this."
ABC has been struggling in the ratings race and lags rivals CBS and NBC.
Bornstein was named president last May. He presided over Disney's failed attempt to launch an Internet portal to compete with AOL and Yahoo. He was an early executive at ESPN and joined Disney in 1996 when Disney bought Capital Cities/ABC.
