President of ABC resigns

LOS ANGELES - Steve Bornstein, president of the troubled ABC television network, resigned Tuesday. The announcement was made by Robert Iger, president of The Walt Disney Co., which owns ABC.<br> <br> Bornstein is leaving the troubled network &#34;to pursue other interests,&#34; according to a statement released by Disney.<br> <br> &#34;I have had the good fortune of having some very challenging and rewarding positions with ESPN, ABC and The Walt Disney Company,&#34; Bornstein said in the statement. &#34;There are other interests I wish to pursue and now is an appropriate time to do this.&#34;<br> <br> ABC has been struggling in the ratings race and lags rivals CBS and NBC.<br> <br> Bornstein was named president last May. He presided over Disney&#39;s failed attempt to launch an Internet portal to compete with AOL and Yahoo. He was an early executive at ESPN and joined Disney in 1996 when Disney bought Capital Cities/ABC.<br> <br>
