ATLANTA - BellSouth customers in Georgia have access to an expanded service through Directory Assistance. "Reverse Search" now allows customers to call Directory Assistance with a phone number from anywhere in the country and be given the name and address associated with that number.
As with regular Directory Assistance, names and addresses are provided only if the phone number is published. The service does not extend to non-published, private or wireless numbers.
"This is an effort by BellSouth to expand the services available to our customers through Directory Assistance," said Belinda Grant-Anderson, president of BellSouth's Operator Services organization.
The Directory Assistance recording has been changed to reflect this new offering.
BellSouth has offered Reverse Search for local numbers in five of its nine states, including Georgia, for some time. The company introduced nationwide Reverse Search in Florida in February, and the service has been well received.
Along with Georgia, nationwide Reverse Search is being introduced in North Carolina and South Carolina today, and BellSouth plans to roll it out to its other five states later this year.
Nationwide Reverse Search calls in Georgia are charged at the same 95-cent rate as National Directory Assistance calls, and, as with National Directory Assistance, two searches are permitted per call.
