MARIETTA - Representatives of Lockheed Martin and the machinists union will meet in Atlanta Wednesday to try to avert a strike at the company's Marietta assembly plant.
The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service ordered the meeting under the Labor-Management Relations Act. The meeting will be presided over by agency mediator Michael DiPinto.
Negotiations on a contract to replace one that expired on Friday fell apart last week. Union members voted Sunday to reject Lockheed's final offer.
Union representatives says the major disagreements revolve around wage increases, retirement benefits and health insurance.
