AUGUSTA - Steve Stone, assistant vice president/shared services for Knight Ridder, has been named to a similar position with Morris Communications. <br>

As vice president and chief financial officer for newspapers and shared services, Stone will head up Morris' new Project STAR (Shared Technologies and Resources), which analyzes company operations for improved efficiencies. <br>

Stone is a graduate of Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas, and attended graduate school at Wichita State University. He previously worked as vice president and CFO for The Charlotte (North Carolina) Observer and as finance director and controller for The Miami Herald. <br>
<br>
Stone's appointment is effective April 11.
