MACON - BB&T Insurance Services today said it plans to expand its property and casualty operation with the acquisition of Macon, Ga.-based Kaplan Insurance.
The transaction is expected to be completed in March. Terms were not disclosed.
"This acquisition will allow us to further expand our presence in Macon, one of the fastest growing cities in the state," said Wade Reece, president of BB&T Insurance Services. "The Kaplan agency has built a solid reputation over the years for excellent client service. They will make us that much stronger in central Georgia."
Kaplan will continue to operate in Macon with its current employees. It will eventually combine operations with the existing BB&T-Macon Insurance office.

"So we're very excited about that, as well as the fact that our customers will be able to continue the valued personal relationships they've developed with their agents."
Kaplan, who will be named sales and marketing manager for BB&T's insurance operations in Macon, will report to Charles McDaniel, central Georgia area manager.
BB&T operates 70 agencies: 33 in North Carolina, 19 in Virginia, eight in Georgia, four in South Carolina, three in Maryland, two in West Virginia and one in Tennessee.
