GAINESVILLE - A program that brings meals to homebound and disabled seniors in Gainesville and Hall County has been honored.

The Meals on Wheels program has received the Meals on Wheels Association of America Grants National Nutrition Certification.

"What it does, it indicates that our program meets national standards of excellence," said local coordinator for Meals on Wheels Tracy Whitmire.

Whitmire, commenting Tuesday, said volunteers make it all possible.

"Gainesville-Hall County is a very giving and involved community, and we have over 200 volunteers right now that donate their time each week and each month to over 300 clients," said Whitmire.

The local program, operated under the Gainesville-Hall County Community Service Center, is one of only two Meals on Wheels in Georgia with the accreditation.

Phillippa Lewis Moss, Director of the community service center said she's very proud of the employees. "We are very fortunate to receive this award. We have such a dedicated staff working each day to make sure the meals are delivered hot and on time."

Meals on Wheels has been operating in Gainesville-Hall County for 30 years.
