Sugar Hill representative resigns to run for state Senate seat

ATLANTA - Republican Representative Bobby Reese of Sugar Hill resigned his state House seat Thursday to run for an open Senate seat.

Reese said he will seek to replace Senator Billy Ray, another Gwinnett County Republican, who resigned last week to become a Superior Court judge.

Reese's district included parts of Gwinnett and Forsyth counties. He was elected in 1998.

Reese said, ``I really had to think about it, pray about it, consult a lot of people about it.''

A special election will be called this winter to replace Reese's seat.
