A new candidate has announced they are running for Barrow County’s District 6 commission seat.
Power Evans, a lifelong resident and current member of Winder’s City Council, announced his candidacy on Monday.
Evans will not seek reelection to the Ward 3 council seat that he was elected to in 2023.
“After much thought and prayer, I’ve decided not to seek re-election to the Winder City Council,” Evans said. “This was not an easy decision. Serving the city of Winder has been one of the greatest honors of my life, and I’m incredibly grateful for the trust and support this community has given me.”
Evans said Winder is a lot more than “just a dot on the map,” calling it “home.”
District 6 covers the center-north part of the county, and encompasses a significant portion of the City of Winder.
“Our community is changing rapidly. We need leaders who understand how to manage growth in a smart, responsible, and meaningful way,” Evans said. “I’m ready to take what I’ve learned on the city council and apply it on a broader scale to benefit all of District 6.”
District 6 is currently held by Deborah Lynn, who works in real estate. She was elected in 2022 and her term expires on Dec. 31 of 2026. The election would be in November of 2026.
