Original story published June 7, 2025 @ 6:49 p.m:
A line of severe thunderstorms rolled through northeast Georgia on Saturday evening, causing downed trees and power outages across several area counties.
Georgia Power, Jackson EMC and Habersham EMC were each reporting 4,000+ outages in their respective coverage areas as the storms moved through.
Smaller providers - such as Amicalola EMC, Sawnee EMC and Blue Ridge Mountain EMC - were also reporting severe outages at the height of Saturday's storm activity.
Jackson EMC sported the highest number of outages during the evening hours, with customers reporting issues across eleven counties - ranging from Clarke and Madison counties in the southeast, to Lumpkin and White counties in the northwest.
More than 38,000 Jackson EMC customers were without power at the original time of publication.
Georgia Power reported outages in Dawson, Forsyth, Gwinnett and Hall counties, with more than 5,000 customers experiencing an outage in the greater Gainesville area alone as of 6:45 p.m. Saturday.
Habersham EMC reported well over 4,000 outages, a majority stemming from Habersham and White counties. Nearly 20% of the co-op's Habersham County customers were without power as of 7 p.m.
AccessWDUN also received word of severe tree damage along Georgia 400 Saturday evening, with multiple trees reported down on the roadway along a stretch of highway between Dahlonega and Dawsonville.
