White County and the cities of Cleveland and Helen are inviting all interested persons to attend a public hearing for discussions regarding the development of the White County Joint Comprehensive Plan for 2026.
The Comprehensive Plan is required to comply with the Georgia Planning Act of 1989 and an upcoming hearing is intended to inform the public about the purpose of the Plan and the planning process, to discuss the Plan development schedule, and provide an explanation of the public participation process to be followed by the city during the preparation of the Plan.
John Sell is the White County Director for Community and Economic Development and says an opportunity will also be provided for interested citizens to have input on local needs and issues. The public hearing will be held on Tuesday, June 24th in the Board of Commissioners Meeting Room from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. Sell says that residents attending the meeting can seek up to three minutes for speaking with county officials about their concerns and suggestions at that time.
Sell says the county's leaders are required to have a Comprehensive Plan in place by February of 2026 that covers at least the next five years of targeted growth for recreation, government, residential and industrial projections for the cities of Cleveland and Helen, as well as for White County.
A survey is also being made available to the public for input on such topics of discussion, and will be reviewed by county officials in the days and weeks ahead.
