Body recovered last week from Lake Lanier by Forsyth County officially identified Monday.

Forsyth County officials have released confirmed details from the discovery of a body from Lake Lanier last week.

A press release from Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Monday morning confirmed that the body retrieved from the lake last week is that of previously reported missing kayaker, Dustin Valencia of Cumming.  Officials initially said that they recovered the body in a cove in 51 feet of water at Little Ridge Park.

FCSO Spokesperson Stacie Miller says that the case remains under investigation with their Special Crimes Unit, and that no further details have been made available at this time.


The Forsyth County Fire Department recovered an unidentified body from Lake Lanier on Friday.

Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Stacie Miller said no identification has been made, and the case is ongoing.

Miller added that the body was recovered in a cove in 51 feet of water at Little Ridge Park.

The Department of Natural Resources located the body, and the incident remains under investigation.
