CALHOUN, Ga. — Finally, it's over.
After two attempts, the third time was the charm as the Johnson boys soccer team knocked off Calhoun 2-1 in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs Monday afternoon.
The match, which began Friday night and was suspended less than 28 minutes into it due to weather conditions, was supposed to resume on Saturday. However, Mother Nature had other plans for the second-round battle, forcing the game to Monday afternoon.
When the match was suspended late Friday night, the Knights led 1-0 on a goal by Junior Castillo in the first 10 minutes. But heavy rains forced the game to be stopped with 12:37 left in the first half.
On Monday, Calhoun tied the match, 1-1, 30 seconds into the restart.
The Knights responded about 15 minutes into the second half when Jalil Chavez took a pass from Luis Torres and punched it in the back of the net for the go-ahead goal.
The win sets up a rematch with Region 6-3A and county rival Chestatee on Tuesday at The Dungeon for a trip to the Final Four. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Earlier this season, Johnson beat Chestatee, 3-1, in Sardis.
