Boys soccer playoffs: Four area teams looks for Elite 8 berths

By Jeff Hart Sports Reporter

Regions 8-5A and 8-4A flexed their muscles in the first round of the Georgia High School Assocaition boys soccer playoffs last week. Region 8-4A swept through the first while Region 8-5A sent three into the Sweet 16.

But things get a little more difficult on Wednesday as the second round gets underway around the state.

In Class 5A, Jackson County (14-5) travels to No. 9 Rome (14-3) while Region 8-5A champion Habersham Central (12-3) plays host to Lakeside-Evans (8-9) at Raider Stadium. The Raiders have surrendered just 6 goals in their last 7 matches.

East Forsyth was part of the 8-4A juggernaut that rolled into the second round. But the Broncos (12-6) will face perhaps their toughest test of the season traveling to Class 4A fourth-ranked Clarkston (12-1). Offense will be the key for East Forsyth. The Broncos are 1-6 when scoring 2 or fewer goals. They are 6-2-1 when scoring more than 2 goals in a match. The Angoras, however, have given up just 7 goals on the season.

And despite being a 17-game winner, Class A Division 2 fourth-ranked Towns County (17-2) will hit the road against Chattahoochee County (9-8). The Indians have allowed just 17 goals (0.89 goals/game) on the season.
