WATKINSVILLE, Ga. — The Cherokee Bluff boys captured the Region 8-3A title with a tough 3-1 win over host Oconee County on Wednesday at the Oconee County High School courts.
The No. 2 doubles team of Nick Bellew and Brady Woodward got the first point with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Saahil Doshi and Matthew Williams. The No. 1 doubles team of Jett Hewette and Neo Dang followed with a three set win (6-2, 5-7, 6-2) over Rohan Patel and Elijah Small.
Oconee County got its only point when Vance Patterson beat the Bears’ Baylor Oleksinski 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Boston Murphy also was locked ina tight duel at No. 2 singles for Bluff when James Rivenbank outlasted Champ Blose 6-3, 0-6, 6-2 at No. 1 singles to close out the match.
Bluff is guaranteed a top 8 seed in the upcoming Class 3A playoffs. Seeding will be determined by the Playoff Rankings System (PRS). The first round of the playoffs is set to be completed by April 24.
