Casualty Training exercise taking place in Habersham County today

By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter
A mass casualty exercise is taking place today (Wednesday, March 19) on the Piedmont University campus in Demorest.

Habersham County's Sheriff's Office and Emergency Services officials are reminded residents and businesses  in the area of Piedmont University  about the planned exercise for training.  Expect to see increased law enforcement and emergency services present in the area, with emergency equipment activated, as well as other resources.

The Habersham County Sheriff's Office social media page says that a section of Georgia Street through the Piedmont campus will be closed for the duration of the exercise and entry to that section of campus will be restricted to participants to ensure the safety of responders, participants, and drivers.

Motorists on Central Avenue (Ga. 385 / Business 441) and other downtown Demorest roads near the campus may encounter minor delays, as emergency vehicles travel to and from campus. Habersham officials are asking that motorists drive alert and exercise caution around emergency vehicles.
