Piedmont University’s art museum will honor the life of Lillian E. Smith over the course of the next year.
The exhibition will honor the social justice activist who studied at Piedmont from 1915-1916.
“Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Lillian E. Smith: 80th Anniversary Exhibition” at Piedmont University’s Mason-Scharfenstein Museum of Art will be available to view from Sep. 5 of this year to May 15 of next year.
A public reception will take place on Sep. 5 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The exhibition celebrates the 80th anniversary of her best-known novel, Strange Fruit (1944).
It will feature art, books, and personal items of Smith’s including a book signed by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.
