LISTEN: Community leader Art Gallegos, Jr. speaks on commendation from Gov. Kemp

By AccessWDUN Staff

Gainesville community leader Art Gallegos, Jr. came on WDUN’s “The Drive at 5” after being commended by Governor Brian Kemp last month.

“It was a surprise, but it was something that we’ve been doing just because we love our community, we love what we do and we do what we love,” Gallegos, Jr. said.

Gallegos, Jr. said he heard just days before that Kemp would be recognizing him on Feb. 12.

He also added that he is the first Hispanic person to be commended by Kemp.

“I’ve been blessed to be an active community leader here in Gainesville and Hall County,” Gallegos, Jr. said.

The commendation specifically mentioned Gallegos, Jr.'s involvement with the search for missing Maria Gomez-Perez last year and helping families who lost loved ones in the chemical leak at a Gainesville food processing plant.

“We are blessed to be able to be that bridge … that we can communicate information,” Gallegos, Jr. said. “We really have a lot of resources that people can come up and inquire about and get the right information so that’s very imperative for us to be that bridge.”
