Oakwood man arrested on rape charge

By Will Daughtry News Reporter

An Oakwood man has been arrested after reportedly attempting to rape a woman at gunpoint.

The Oakwood police department reports that 53-year-old John Clarke had paid the victim to have sex with him on Tuesday.

The victim told police that she “became afraid” and changed her mind, telling Clarke to stop.

Clarke allegedly refused to stop, and held the victim down on the bed.

The victim was able to grab a taser from her purse according to authorities, which is when Clarke allegedly pulled out a handgun and demanded his money back.

The victim was able to call 9-1-1 and had the speaker on. Clarke reportedly overheard the 9-1-1 dispatcher and let the victim leave and he then left right after her.

Police arrived at the scene of the residence in the area of Thurmon Tanner Parkway at around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Upon arrival, officers did not locate any victims or witnesses due to the two leaving the scene.

On Friday, arrest warrants were obtained for Clarke and he was taken into custody during a traffic stop.

The Oakwood Police Department then executed a search warrant at Clarke’s residence to search for additional evidence.

Clarke was charged with rape, aggravated assault, pandering, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

He remains in the Hall County Jail without bond.
