By Will Daughtry News Reporter

The mother who left her baby in Forsyth County woods back in 2019 has been sentenced.

Karima Jiwani of Cumming was arrested and charged with attempted murder, first-degree cruelty to children, aggravated assault, and reckless abandonment in 2023.

She was sentenced to 30 years with 15 in prison and the rest on probation last Thursday.

"I cannot find the words to describe  how someone who should have done their best for a newborn child, instead did their worst and for that she will spend 15 years in prison.  I am so proud of our FCSO team for their dedication and never giving up on Baby India.  Kudos to District Attorney Penny Penn and her team for bringing this case to a positive resolution," Forsyth County Sheriff Ron Freeman said.

The baby was dubbed “Baby India” when she was found in a plastic shopping bag near Daves Creek Road in June of 2019.

Jiwani was found nearly four years later thanks to leads from DNA in the case identifying the father of the baby.

Jiwani pled guilty to the charges of attempted murder and first degree cruelty to children.
