Gainesville Police arrest suspect in deadly Monday shooting

A Gainesville man has now been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting that happened on Athens Street early Monday morning.

The Gainesville Police Department posted to social media Tuesday morning saying Kendrick Deshaun Goss, age 44, has been arrested on murder and aggravated assault charges in relation to the incident.

"Goss allegedly shot Kendrick McClendin to death at the Texaco (gas station) after an altercation at a party," the post by the police department said. "During the rapid gunfire, a female who was with McClendin was shot in the arm."

No other details about the incident have been released. Athens Street was closed for much of Monday during the investigation, which involved several other agencies including the FBI and GBI.

"I am thankful for the teamwork by multiple agencies and the community, who came together so quickly to solve this crime and apprehend the one responsible for the senseless death," Gainesville Police Chief Jay Parrish said.


Original story published Feb. 10 at 7:45 a.m.:

The Gainesville Police Department is investigating a shooting that left a man dead and a woman in stable condition. 

The department said in a Facebook post officers have closed Athens St. at West Ridge Rd. after they responded to a call for a shooting in the area early Monday morning.  The male victim reportedly died at the scene while the female victim was transported for her injuries.
