Habersham County Schools will be closed on Monday, Sept. 30, 2024 amid road conditions in the area.
The school system said Sunday officials consulted with the County Road Department regarding current road conditions prior to making the decision.
“If one more day of caution and verification saves one life, it's worth it,” Habersham County Public Works Director Jerry Baggett said in a release. “Once we have a full day of daylight to evaluate and address any remaining safety issues, hopefully things can get back to normal by Tuesday.”
The district reported some roadways in the county are still blocked by downed trees and low hanging power lines from the Tropical Storm Helene’s journey through the region Thursday night.
Habersham County School officials will assess conditions on Monday with the goal of continuing instruction on Tuesday.
