Gwinnett Animal Welfare to offer free adoptions during Clear the Shelters event

By Lawson Smith Anchor/Reporter

Gwinnett Animal Welfare and Enforcement is set to  join several shelters and rescues in the nationwide Clear the Shelters adoption drive Saturday.

Gwinnett Animal Welfare will offer free pet adoptions and host a celebration  from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Bill Atkinson Animal Welfare center. The celebration will feature activities, crafts, music, local vendors, and more.

All adoptable pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, and most pets  will be able to go home the same day as adoption.

Sponsored by NBC Universal, the Clear the Shelters campaign aims to place shelter pets in loving homes across the country. The campaign has helped shelters find homes for over 1 million pets since its launch in 2015. 2024 marks Gwinnett’s seventh year participating in the event.

Those interested in adopting a pet from the shelter can find adoptable pets here.

The Bill Atkinson Animal Welfare Center is located at 884 Winder Highway in Lawrenceville. Parking is only available at the Department of Water Resources office, located at 684 Winder Highway in Lawrenceville. A shuttle will be provided to take guests to the event site.
