Tax increase included in proposed Oakwood budget

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

The City of Oakwood is preparing to vote on its Fiscal Year 2025 budget and it announced Thursday that it includes a nearly 6% property tax increase for city residents.

The announcement from the city did not cite the exact millage rate change, but said it would increase taxes by 5.8% over the full rollback rate.

Per Georgia law, Oakwood will hold three public hearings on the millage rate before the city council votes on the new budget. All three hearings will be at Oakwood City Hall on Walnut Street, with the dates and times listed below:

  • Tuesday, August 6 at 6:00 p.m.
  • Monday, August 12 at 10:00 a.m.
  • Monday, August 12 at 7:00 p.m.

The final hearing August 12 is set to be immediately followed by the council's vote.
