Sautee Nacoochee Cultural Center preparing for upcoming renovations

By Megan Nelson Intern

The history museum at Sautee Nacoochee Cultural Center is getting ready for an upcoming makeover.

Beginning this spring, artifacts in the museum will be cataloged and put into storage ahead of upcoming renovations. The center has enlisted HW Exhibits, a design and build firm specializing in museums, to oversee the updates.

The museum will reopen with a ribbon-cutting ceremony this fall with brand-new exhibits and interpretive panels. The focus on incorporating audiovisual components aims to create an inclusive, immersive and interactive journey for all.

This project wouldn’t have been possible without the dedicated efforts of the Sautee Nacoochee Center History Museum Committee.

“The committee’s tireless work in researching, planning, and securing funds has paved the way for a complete overhaul of the museum's exhibits and guest experience,”  Said Mel Whitehead, Executive Director at SNC. “The History Committee is working closely with the design firm to ensure that the new layout and exhibits honor both the historic integrity of the 1928 school building in which the museum is housed and the rich tapestry of the valleys’ history.”

The Sautee Nacoochee Cultural Center invites the public to join them for a farewell reception on Apr. 19 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. to celebrate the legacy of the history museum. This will be a unique opportunity to see the museum as it is for the last time and get a sneak peek at what’s to come.
