FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — Cherokee Bluff knocked off fifth-ranked Cedar Shoals 1-0 on Friday in a defensive battle in the rain in a huge Region 8-4A contest for both teams.
Neither team could find the net in the first half and it looked liked it may head to overtime in a scoreless tie.
But Travis Austin, off a nice feed from Jack Wayne, scored with 15 minutes left and the Bears defense made it stand up.
The win was the second straight for Bluff (5-4-1, 2-2 Region 8-4A) while Cedar Shoals (7-2-1, 5-2 Region 8-4A) has dropped two of its last three in the region.
