Hall County Schools announces district nominees for Georgia Governor's Honors Program

By Lawson Smith Anchor/Reporter

43 high school students with Hall County Schools have been selected as district nominees for the Georgia Governor’s Honors Program.

The residential summer program invites sophomores and juniors from across the state to participate in instruction that differs from the average high school classroom. GHP aims to encourage students to be global thinkers through  academic, cultural and social enrichment. Students apply to participate in a specified area of study at a college or university campus, and are also provided with opportunities to explore other subjects through various activities.

The 2025 program will be held at Georgia Southern University, marking GHP’s 62nd summer. The program is the longest  running of its kind in the country, according to a release from HCSS.

“Meals and rooms are provided by the program,” the release said. “The only required and expected costs to the students are: travel expenses to and from the semifinalist event and host campus; a few basic supplies for classes and dorm rooms; and spending money as desired during the program.”

GHP is managed by the Governor’s Office for Student Achievement. From their district nominations, students will apply to the semifinalist phase of the selection process, which includes an interview with program officials. GHP will notify students if they were selected for the next round on Feb. 7, 2025.
