HCSD set to get new principal, director of secondary education

By Will Daughtry News Reporter

There are a couple of changes coming to the Hall County School District (HCSD).

On Tuesday, HCSD Superintendent Will Schofield announced his intent to recommend current Flowery Branch High School Principal Jason Carter for the director of secondary education role.

In his place, Schofield also announced his intent to recommend Joey Farah as Flowery Branch High School’s (FBHS’s) interim principal.

Carter is taking over for Suzanne Jarrard, who was recently named assistant superintendent for teaching and learning.

Both recommendations will be made at the June 9 board meeting.

Carter has nearly three decades of educational experience and joined Hall County Schools in 2009 as assistant principal at Johnson High School.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve in a supporting role for all of our secondary principals,” Carter said. “I’ve worked alongside many of these leaders for the past 12 years, and I’m incredibly grateful for the chance to continue supporting them in this new capacity. I’m humbled and thankful to work with such an amazing group of administrators, teachers, and staff.”

Jarrard expressed support for Carter's selection.

“Dr. Carter is a proven leader who understands the unique challenges and opportunities in our middle and high schools,” Jarrard said. “His deep experience and steady leadership will be invaluable as we continue to support student growth, academic achievement, and school improvement across the district.”

Farah is currently the assistant principal for career, technical, and agricultural education (CTAE) at FBHS.

“I am deeply grateful to Mr. Schofield and the Board of Education for the privilege of serving as Interim Principal of FBHS,” Farah said. “My five years at this remarkable school have been truly rewarding, and I am thrilled to continue the journey with our exceptional educators, students, and supportive community. For the past 19 years, my family and I have proudly called Flowery Branch home, and we cherish being part of this wonderful community.”

Farah has 19 years of experience in education, beginning at Parkview High School in Lilburn as a special education and marketing teacher while coaching softball and baseball for 12 years.

He moved into administration in 2017 as assistant principal at Apalachee High School. He has been the assistant principal for CTAE at FBHS for the last five years.

"With nearly two decades of experience, including the past five years as a valued assistant principal at FBHS, Joey Farah has consistently demonstrated a commitment to innovation, character, and high expectations,” Schofield said. “His statewide recognitions in CTAE reflect not only his passion for student success, but also his ability to build programs that prepare young people for life beyond the classroom. We are confident that Mr. Farah will provide steady, visionary leadership for the Flowery Branch community."
