Gainesville City Board of Education Vice Chair Kris Nordholz resigns

By Lawson Smith Anchor/Reporter
Gainesville Board of Education District 2 representative and Vice Chair Kris Nordholz announced his resignation from the board during its Monday night meeting.

During the meeting, Nordholz explained he is moving outside of District 2, meaning he can no longer serve in the position. The BOE said they will appoint someone to fill the vacancy until a permanent replacement can be elected in November 2025. The appointed individual will remain in the role until December of this year.

Nordholz is a graduate of Gainesville High School and was first elected to serve in 2019. He was then re-elected in 2023. During his tenure, he played a role in assisting the Board in achieving Exemplary status for the past two years.

"Mr. Nordholz was one of the first people I met when our family arrived in Gainesville in 2017," Superintendent Dr. Jeremy Williams said in a release. "His experience running a successful business brought an invaluable perspective to our district. He was instrumental in ensuring all our programs were providing the strong foundation needed for student progress and success. He will be greatly missed, and we extend our sincerest best wishes to him in his future endeavors."

District 2 citizens interested in this interim position are encouraged to apply. Applicants must reside within District 2. To express interest and complete a questionnaire, please visit the official Gainesville City School System website at www.gcssk12.net. The Board of Education will review all submissions and conduct interviews with prospective candidates before making an appointment.
