The Georgia Association of Conservation Districts Board of Directors appointed a Gainesville native as Board Member Emeritus for the organization.

T. Larry Nix was presented with the honor, which is given to individuals who have contributed to soil and water conservation efforts and served in leadership roles within the organization. GACD Emeritus board members serve as mentors and advisers to the organization’s Board of Directors.

Nix served as Hall County’s Conservation District Supervisor for 38 years. He was appointed as Hall County Conservation District Emeritus in 2020.  Nix also served as GACD President and is a member of the GACD Hall of Fame for his conservation efforts.

Nix also served on the National Association of Conservation District’s board and was inducted into NACD Southeast Hall of Fame.

Outside of the organization, Nix held leadership positions with the National Conservation Foundation and Chestatee-Chattahoochee RC&D Council. He was inducted into the Hall County Agribusiness Hall of Fame in 2010.

“GACD values the wisdom acquired from Mr. Nix’s many years of dedication to the conservation of Georgia’s natural resources, and I look forward to his involvement and valuable counsel going forward,’’ Jake Ford, GACD President, said in a release. “It is exceptional when a Board can continue to benefit from the ongoing involvement from emeritus.”

GACD advocates for conservation of natural resources throughout the state.
