A husband and wife from Commerce were arrested on Tuesday after two thefts in September at a business in the northern part of Hall County.

Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson B.J. Williams said Barry Lamar Norton, 38, and Harley Cohen Norton, 28, were arrested for the thefts on Sept. 12 and Sept. 19 at North Hall Tire & Wheel on Cleveland Highway.

The tire shop owner contacted HCSO to report suspected thefts of wheels and tires with an estimated value of $3,000.

“HCSO property crimes investigators assigned to the case reviewed video footage from the business and determined two suspects, a man and a woman, had driven an SUV to the back of the property in the overnight hours and loaded the vehicle with several wheels and tires,” Williams said.

The video helped investigators to trace the SUV and ultimately identify the couple as suspects.

They were arrested by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and then transported to Hall County on Oct. 22.

Both were charged with two felony counts of theft by taking and they remain in the Hall County Jail on a bond of $5,900.
