NORCROSS, Ga. – Despite leading early, White County fell behind at GAC and couldn't complete the comeback in a 28-23 loss to the Spartans Friday night.
With the win, GAC holds on to the second spot in Region 6-3A with two games to go, while White County needs a lot of help to have a chance to make the playoffs.
The Warriors scored first on a 25-yard pick-six from Jon Scott, but the Spartancs answered just two minutes later with a touchdown pass to tie the game, 7-7, after one quarter. GAC took their first lead of the game two minutes into the second on a 5-yard run, but White County answered with two minutes to play in the half with a 24-yard pass from Tripp Nix to John Phillips to tie the game again.
After getting the ball back quickly, the Warriors drove into field goal range for Hayden Vandagriff to hit a 34-yard field goal and give White County a 17-14 lead at intermission. After the half, however, GAC hit a big play and scored a 71-yard touchdown to retake the lead midway through the third before extending the lead midway through the fourth on a short run.
White County answered just 67 seconds later with another Nix passing score, this time to Noel Lammers, but the two-point try failed and GAC held on to secure the win.
The Warrirors will play host to Chestatee next Friday night in an absolute must-win for White County.
