Georgia Department of Transportation to begin work on RCUT near State Route 365 at Mount Zion Road

The Georgia Department of Transportation announced the construction of an RCUT on State Route 365 and Mount Zion Road in Habersham County.

GDOT officials said construction will begin in mid-October if weather permits.

Contractor Vertical Earth LLC and GDOT will start to put up signage for upcoming construction the week of October 6.

An RCUT would only allow right turns coming from any direction into the intersection and would require additional U-turns to be placed nearby.

“Left turns from Mount Zion Road onto SR 365 will be restricted and a new traffic pattern will direct all vehicles to make a right turn onto SR 365. Those wanting to make a left will travel to a left turn lane to a make U-turn and continue in the opposite direction,” GDOT officials said.

Drivers traveling on SR 365 will be able to make a left onto Mt. Zion Road both northbound and southbound.

The project will close the intersection to cross traffic from Mount Zion Road.

Drivers are encouraged to drive the speed limit and slow down when driving through the construction zone.

This announcement follows a wreck that occurred on July 16 that took the lives of five people.
