Habersham County officials warn residents about potential scammers for unsolicited work.

Officials in Habersham County are warning residents to watch out for potential scammers.

Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terrell is urging residents to be wary of workers who show up at their homes unsolicited.

“People should be wary of people who show up at their house wanting to work on the roof, driveway, or other parts of their property – especially if they don’t know the company and haven’t requested work,” Terrell said.

Often, potential scammers ask for money upfront, promise work at less than market value, and then either disappear with that money or demand an additional payment to complete the work.

At least one such instance has been reported in the area this week.

Terrell adds in a recent press release that representatives of a reputable company will not mind waiting for an officer to arrive and meet with them to verify their identity.

If someone shows up at a home and there is doubt about their legitimacy, residents can call Habersham County E-911 Dispatch at (706) 778-3911 and request an officer to meet with them and the laborers.
