Forsyth County officials and residents gathered Saturday morning to cut the ribbon on the new Lanierland Park expansion, featuring tennis and pickleball courts, baseball fields and more.

Residents in Forsyth County have new park amenities to look forward to as Lanierland cut the ribbon on the second phase of its development. Located in North Forsyth County along Jot Em Down Road, Saturday morning’s event hosted county officials who provided remarks on the storied history of the park and what residents have to look forward to.

“So we broke ground on this park in 2021,” Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Director Kirk Franz said. “It's been a lot of work to get here, we're working with our design team, and now working with contractors to get the park built, and just a lot of work and a lot of effort to get to where we are today to cut the ribbon.”

The $12.5 million portion of the project has added a variety of new features, including six tennis courts, four pickleball courts, four baseball fields, a Miracle League field, an all-inclusive playground, over two miles of paved walking paths, a new football and lacrosse fieldhouse and additional parking.

Those in attendance at the ribbon-cutting ceremony heard from Forsyth County Commissioner Cindy Jones Mills, whose district houses Lanierland. They also heard from County Manager David McKee and Commissioner Laura Semanson.

Consultation for the park project was done through Lose Design and the general contractor was Astra Group Inc., according to Communications Director Russell Brown.

The total project budget is $16.5 million, which was funded by impact fees from SPLOST VII.

Following the official ceremony, a Miracle League game took place on the new, state-of-the-art all-turf field.

“Miracle League is an all-inclusive program that allows children of any kind of ability to come out and enjoy the game of baseball, and we have volunteers that partner with all the athletes, and it's basically every Saturday morning, they're out here and they're playing baseball, and just enjoying the sport,” Franz said.

Additional amenities and improvements will continue to be made to the park throughout the fall season, officials said Saturday.
