The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office released Sunday afternoon the identity of the 24-year-old man who died by electrocution in Lake Lanier on Thursday.
Authorities said Thomas Milner entered the water from his family's dock and was heard shortly after screaming for help.
A family friend tried to get Milner out of the water using a ladder but was unsuccessful.
Neighbors then took a boat to help Milner and one person jumped into the lake to help him. That person said they felt a burning sensation which they recognized as an electric shock.
Authorities said the person swam to shore to turn off the power box, reentered the water and brought Milner ashore.
Milner's uncle attempted CPR until EMS arrived.
Milner was taken to Northside Forsyth Hospital but died from his injuries the next day. Authorities said the incident remains an active investigation.

A man died Thursday after he was reportedly shocked by electricity after jumping into Lake Lanier.
According to Mark McKinnon, public affairs officer with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the 24-year-old man jumped off a dock near Lanier Beach South Road in Forsyth County. He was shocked by electricity in the water after jumping in.
The man was taken to Northside Forsyth Hospital where he later died.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources was notified after the incident and was not on scene when the incident occurred.
The name of the victim was not released.
McKinnon was unable to release any additional information.
