As of 7:34 a.m. Saturday:

Gwinnett County Police officials say a county district attorney's office investigator was shot while driving on Auburn Road in Dacula by a man in another vehicle.

Gwinnett County Police Corporal Michele Pihara said the investigator was reportedly driving on Auburn Road approaching the intersection of Old Fountain Road around 6:00 p.m. when the shooting occurred.

"He was approached by the driver of a silver SUV, and the driver of the silver SUV began shooting at him," Pihara said. "He was shot in one of his extremities. It's non-life-threatening and he's being treated at a local hospital."

The suspect then reportedly continued on Auburn Road towards Dacula Road.

Pihara said the investigator pulled into a gas station, where he called authorities and requested assistance. Authorities are still searching for a suspect and Pihara said there is no known motive at this time.

"What we know right now is that the shooter was driving a silver SUV with rear passenger-side damage. We're doing everything we can to find whoever is responsible," Pihara said. "We don't know if the shooter knew this was an investigator with the district attorney's office or if this was a road rage incident. The district attorney's office investigator drives an unmarked SUV, so there were no overt signs that he is a member of the law enforcement community."

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Gwinnett County detectives by calling 770-513-5300 or by submitting an anonymous tip via Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta.

Roads in the area were closed for several hours while authorities began their investigation.
