On Monday night, officials with the Hall County School Board voted in approval of FY 2024 with a final general fund budget of $339 million and a millage rate set at 15.64.
The budget includes a $2,000 increase in certified staff pay and a $14 million increase dedicated to insurance premiums. Earlier this year Governor Brian Kemp proposed a $2,000 pay increase for teachers which was passed in the Georgia House.
Revenue is set to increase by $46 million over the FY 2023 budget equalling $336.4 million. The increase is due to hikes in state and local sources, as well as investment income, according to officials.
Expenditures will equal $340.3 million, an increase of $33 million over the previous year.
Before Monday's vote of approval, three public hearings were held on the FY 2024 budget.
At the HCSB meeting on June 12th Hall County Schools Superintendent Will Schofield affirmed his intent to keep the millage rate the same which was confirmed at the June 26 meeting.
“I’m proud to say that we’ve adopted a budget that I believe is both fiscally responsible and will meet the needs of our boys and girls,” Schofield explains. “COVID were hard years and this board has stepped up.”
According to the HCSB, the reduced millage rate is the lowest millage rate the board has adopted in 20 years.
