WDUN took to the downtown Gainesville Square Friday afternoon, asking locals about their name ideas for the new sculpture in front of the Renaissance building.

Doug Ivester, the owner of the Gainesville Renaissance, has teamed up with WDUN to put on a naming contest for the silver sculpture on the Gainesville Square. As locals strolled by the art piece Friday, they were asked about their naming ideas for the sculpture.

The sculpture sits in contrast to the Renaissance building and is a contemporary work Ivester nicknamed an “attitude piece.” The contest for someone to officially name the sculpture kicked off Wednesday morning, and submissions have been rolling in.

Those interested in joining the contest can do so by going to www.wdun.com.
