How to prepare for this summer's hurricane season

By Access WDUN Staff

This year’s hurricane season is predicted to be similar to last year. With 14 named storms in the 2022 hurricane season, there is plenty to prepare for this year.

A release from Jackson EMC officials indicates that Hurricane season begins on June 1 and continues until November 30.

They offer a list of safety tips to keep your family and your home safe in advance of severe storms:

Make a plan now. As the storm season approaches, take time with your family to make a written storm plan set. Remember to include any medical needs for your family.

Prepare an emergency storm kit. Every home should have an easily accessible storm kit that will include items such as food, water and medications.

Protect your home. You can protect your home by securing windows and doors, including the garage.  Trimming trees around your yard and moving loose items inside is another way of protecting your property.

Stay updated. Be sure to keep your devices fully charged when there's a threat of severe weather.
